Dunakeszi and Budapest to receive new continuous cycling connection
Minister of Transport and Investment Dávid Vitézy has announced the development of a continuous and safe cycling connection between Dunakeszi and Budapest. The project aims to integrate the northern Budapest section of the EuroVelo 6 international cycling route with the existing city network.
Funding for the project is provided through the Integrated Transport Development Operational Programme Plus (IKOP Plusz). The investment will focus on two critical missing sections to create an uninterrupted link between the Danube Bend and Budapest. This includes connecting the path from Dunakeszi to the previously constructed asphalt embankment road, as well as establishing a safe connection between the embankment and the Danube bank.
The development is intended to expand existing EuroVelo sections and complete missing riverside segments. According to Vitézy, the project serves social and environmental goals by providing alternatives to car travel, which can help reduce noise and air pollution while improving air quality and urban livability.
