Dunamu proposes new crypto inheritance protection system
Dunamu, the operator of the Upbit cryptocurrency exchange, has proposed legislative improvements to protect digital assets during inheritance. Participating in the 2026 National Assembly Legislative Fair, the company highlighted current regulatory gaps regarding the management and inquiry of deceased users' assets.
Dunamu suggested two primary policy reforms: establishing a system to quickly restrict transactions on accounts belonging to deceased individuals and creating a method for heirs to perform integrated inquiries of crypto holdings. Currently, exchanges often cannot confirm a user's death until an heir reports it, and unlike traditional financial assets, land, or pensions, virtual assets are not included in integrated administrative inquiry services. This forces heirs to contact each exchange individually to locate assets.
The proposal aims to bridge the protection gap as cryptocurrency becomes a significant part of personal wealth for millions of users.
