Dune: Part Three nears completion with new details from Villeneuve

Director Denis Villeneuve has provided several updates regarding the upcoming film ‘Dune: Part Three’, which is scheduled for a theatrical release on December 18, 2026. Editor Joe Walker reported that the production is approximately 98% complete and is being prepared for various high-end cinematic formats, including IMAX and Dolby Vision.

Set 17 years after the events of ‘Dune: Part Two’, the film will follow Paul Atreides, portrayed by Timothée Chalamet, as he navigates his role as Emperor. Villeneuve noted that while the film will maintain the series’ DNA, it will feature a different pace and tone to reflect the changed psyches of the characters and the transformed state of the world.

Villeneuve also discussed his transition away from the ‘Dune’ franchise, stating that he views the upcoming James Bond project as a necessary creative departure from the world of Arrakis. He described the Bond assignment as a ‘powerful rocket’ that will allow him to move on to new challenges after concluding the trilogy.
