Denis Villeneuve's Dune: Part Three trailer shows Paul Atreides as a dark emperor
Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures released the official trailer for Denis Villeneuve’s final installment of the Dune saga on 8 July 2026. The three‑minute preview, shown at a global IMAX fan event and streamed online, jumps roughly 17 years after the events of Dune: Part Two. Timothée Chalamet returns as Paul Atreides, now the ruthless Emperor of the known universe, confronting the fallout of the galaxy‑spanning holy war he launched. Zendaya’s Chani appears in a confrontational scene, accusing Paul of breaking the promise never to take power for himself. New antagonist Scytale, played by Robert Pattinson, is introduced as a shape‑shifting threat seeking regime change. Returning characters include Jason Momoa as the cloned Duncan Idaho (Hayt), Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, Rebecca Ferguson, Anya Taylor‑Joy, Javier Bardem and others. Villeneuve describes the third chapter as a darker, more thriller‑like and emotionally intense conclusion to the adaptation of Frank Herbert’s “Dune Messiah.” The film is slated for worldwide release on 18 December 2026, competing with other major year‑end blockbusters.
