Hasbro seeks new studio partner for Dungeons & Dragons sequel

Directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein have confirmed that a screenplay for a sequel to ‘Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves’ is complete. While the project is not currently in production, Hasbro and the film's producers are actively seeking a new studio partner to finance and distribute the movie after Paramount declined to move forward due to the first film's box office performance.

The original film, released in March 2023, earned approximately $205–$209 million worldwide against a reported $150 million production budget. The directors attributed this commercial underperformance to a ‘perfect storm’ of factors, including its release just days before ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’ and a simultaneous licensing controversy involving Wizards of the Coast that led to fan boycotts.

Despite the financial hurdles, the creators expressed strong interest in continuing the story, noting that a sequel could bypass much of the exposition required in the first film since the characters are already established. Hasbro remains a ‘big believer’ in the project, provided a viable economic partnership can be secured.
