Duque de Caxias distributes thousands of free eyeglasses via Visão Caxiense

The City of Duque de Caxias is advancing its ‘Visão Caxiense’ program, which provides free eye care and eyeglasses to the local population. In a recent phase of the initiative, 3,000 pairs of glasses were distributed at the Arena da Baixada.

The program is a partnership between the municipal administration and the Instituto Oftplus de Oftalmologia Avançada (IOFT), a non-profit organization. The initiative utilizes an itinerant model, employing adapted mobile units to perform consultations, exams, and laser procedures directly in various neighborhoods to assist those with limited mobility.

The project aims to deliver 30,000 pairs of glasses over a 12-month period. Within its first two months of activity, the program has already completed more than 14,000 medical appointments.
