Durand Cup opens in Kolkata with ceremony and Indian Army win

The 135th edition of the Durand Cup launched in Kolkata with a grand opening ceremony at Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan, showcasing Indian Armed Forces martial traditions and West Bengal’s cultural heritage. The event was attended by senior officials including West Bengal’s Minister of State for Youth Services and Sports, the General Officer‑Commanding Eastern Command and AIFF President.

On the same day Indian Army Football Team began their campaign by defeating Samaleswari Sporting Club 1‑0 in a Group B match at Kishore Bharati Krirangan. P. Christopher Kamei scored the decisive free‑kick, while Samaleswari goalkeeper Aaryan Anjaneya kept his side in contention with several saves.
