Durango approves demolition of old Post Office for plaza renovation

The Durango City Council has moved forward with the demolition of the old Post Office building to transform a central plaza in the historic district. The contract for the demolition and environmental reorganization has been awarded to Altuna y Uria S. A. for a total of 428,817.67 euros.

Based on a design by González Cavia y Cabrera-Arquitectura, the project aims to remove the 1970s structure to improve the aesthetic of the area facing the town hall. The new space will feature updated urban furniture, wooded areas, a water feature that can serve as a cultural stage, and a mirror-effect facade designed to reflect the town hall architecture. Works are expected to last three months, with scheduling planned to avoid interference with local patron saint festivities.
