Durango child dies from suspected scorpion sting

A three-year-old child has died in Topia, Durango, following a suspected scorpion sting. The child's parents initially mistook the symptoms for the flu and attempted to treat the discomfort with ibuprofen. The situation escalated rapidly with the onset of excessive salivation, leading to the child's death after being taken to a private medical office.

The Durango Health Secretariat noted that the private clinic visited did not have the necessary antivenom, Alacramyn, although the medication is reportedly available in public health units and hospitals. This incident is part of a larger trend in the region; so far in 2026, more than 6,000 people have reported scorpion stings, including two confirmed deaths involving minors.
