Durango launches new senior programs and language courses
The municipality of Durango has launched several community initiatives focused on education and senior welfare. The City Council has opened the 2026-2027 Active Aging Program, which has increased its capacity by 7.5% to offer 575 places. The program includes cognitive stimulation, digital training, and psychosocial support, with pre-registration open until September 18.
Additionally, the Durango Municipal Euskaltegi has begun enrollment for its 2026-2027 Basque language courses, covering levels A1 through C1. The institution is also running the AISA program, a free 60-hour course designed to help newly registered residents over the age of 16 integrate through language learning.
In the broader Bizkaia region, the ‘ACTIVA Bizkaia’ challenge will take place in Bilbao on September 18. Organized by the Bilbao City Council and SECOT Bizkaia, the 12-hour event promotes physical activity among individuals over 55. Participants from the Durango area are scheduled to participate in a collective walking or running circuit during a specific hour of the event.
