Durango Museum of Art and History concludes Jorge Oteiza exhibition

The Jorge Oteiza exhibition, titled ‘Espazioaren hustura. Desocupación Espacial’, is scheduled to close at the Museo de Arte e Historia de Durango on Sunday, August 30. The exhibition represents a historical recovery of a project the sculptor originally conceived for Durango in 1970 that was never realized at the time.

Through research led by curator David Pavo and director Garazi Arrizabalaga using unpublished documentation from the Fundación Museo Jorge Oteiza, the display reconstructs Oteiza’s investigation into the desoccupation of space. The collection features eight sculptures focused on the cube and the sphere, alongside thirteen collages that illustrate his creative process.

The exhibition also includes audiovisual elements, such as an original 1970 recording of Oteiza reflecting on the original project and a 70-minute documentary.
