Durazno investment forum gathers 350 business leaders

Approximately 350 investors, business leaders, and authorities gathered at the Durazno International Airport for the 'Durazno: a department that chooses to grow' forum. Organized by Somos Uruguay, the event focused on identifying investment opportunities and driving regional development.

Ignacio Munyo, director of the Center for Economic and Social Reality Studies (CERES), presented a diagnostic report highlighting Durazno's economic progress. He noted that the department's per capita income has risen from 14th to 8th place in national rankings, with an average annual growth of 3.5% between 2008 and 2025. Munyo identified five key development drivers: logistics, agro-industrial technology, productive linkages, tourism, and water resources.

Durazno Intendant Felipe Algorta emphasized the need to build a robust business ecosystem through public-private cooperation. While noting improvements in infrastructure such as the Central Railway and Route 5, Munyo cautioned that 14% of internal roads remain in poor condition. The forum aimed to translate large-scale investments into local employment and high-quality services.
