Durazno official calls for stricter elderly care facility inspections

Jonny Baldenegro, a councilman for the National Party in Durazno, has called for increased inspections of long-term care facilities for the elderly. He highlighted concerns regarding the Ministry of Social Development (MIDES), alleging that the agency operates with insufficient personnel and is often physically distant from the areas it must oversee.

Baldenegro noted that while the Ministry of Public Health provides more consistent sanitary inspections, the lack of effective oversight by MIDES remains a critical issue. He urged authorities to take action before accidents occur, stating, “we shouldn't wait for something to happen to act,” and emphasized the importance of ensuring facilities comply with current regulations to protect vulnerable residents.
