Durban migrants to be relocated to Lindela Repatriation Centre

The KwaZulu-Natal government has announced plans to relocate migrants currently camping on the pavements outside the Home Affairs Refugee Reception Centre on Che Guevara Road in Durban. The relocation to the Lindela Repatriation Centre in Limpopo is expected to begin as early as next Monday or Tuesday, pending the completion of final verification checks.

More than 300 individuals from countries including the Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi, Uganda, Mozambique, and Tanzania have been living in the makeshift camp for approximately three months. The group sought shelter there following displacement related to anti-illegal immigration protests in June.

KZN Premier Thami Ntuli visited the site to monitor the verification process. He noted that the relocation aims to address the situation of those living on the streets and stated that assisting those willing to reintegrate could help improve social cohesion and relations between local residents and immigrant communities.
