Durek Verrett undergoes successful kidney transplant in Oslo

Durek Verrett, husband of Norwegian Princess Märtha Louise, has successfully undergone a kidney transplant at Rikshospitalet in Oslo. The procedure follows years of chronic kidney disease and regular dialysis. In a joint statement released via their manager, Carina Scheele Carlsen, the couple expressed profound gratitude to the organ donor, stating the new kidney provides a “second chance” that they will never take for granted.

Verrett specifically praised the Norwegian healthcare system, noting the exceptional care received at both Drammen Hospital and Rikshospitalet. He described the medical staff as his “little angels” during a very challenging period. The couple has requested privacy during his recovery and hopes their experience will encourage more people to consider organ donation.

The transplant comes during a period of significant health challenges for the Norwegian royal family. Earlier this year, Crown Princess Mette-Marit underwent a lung transplant, and King Harald V is currently hospitalized at Rikshospitalet being treated for a bacterial infection.
