Dâures Green Fertiliser Project secures $3.6 million for Namibia production

The Dâures Green Fertiliser Project in Namibia has secured up to US$3.6 million in development funding to advance local, renewable-powered fertiliser production. SDG Namibia One signed a development funding agreement with Enersense Energy Namibia to support the project, which is part of a larger development budget totaling approximately US$7.07 million. The funds, mobilized with support from the European Union’s Global Gateway initiative and Invest International, will be used for engineering studies, environmental and social assessments, permitting, and commercial development.

Unlike many low-carbon ammonia projects in Africa that focus on exports, the Dâures project specifically targets the domestic market to reduce Namibia’s reliance on expensive imported fertilisers and enhance food security. The facility is planned to utilize 60 MW of solar capacity, 10 MW of wind power, and 65 MWh of battery storage to power a 40 MW electrolyzer.

Once operational, the plant is expected to produce up to 20,000 tonnes of green ammonia and 80,000 tonnes of ammonium sulphate annually. The project aims to reach financial close in the second quarter of 2028, with commercial operations projected to begin in the first quarter of 2030.
