Durga Ashtami observed on August 20, 2026

Monthly Durga Ashtami, observed during the Sawan month, is being celebrated on August 20, 2026. According to the Hindu calendar, the Ashtami तिथि began on the evening of August 19 and will conclude on the night of August 20.

Devotees observe fasts and perform specific rituals to seek the blessings of Goddess Durga for peace, prosperity, and strength. Auspicious worship timings include a morning window from 11:37 AM to 12:27 PM and a twilight period from 6:55 PM to 7:17 PM.

Traditional practices for the day include offering red hibiscus flowers, lighting ghee lamps, and reciting the Durga Chalisa or Durga Saptashati. Devotees are advised to avoid wearing black clothing, consuming tamasic foods such as onion, garlic, meat, or alcohol, and engaging in arguments or sleeping during the day. Honoring women and young girls through food and gifts is also a significant custom.
