Durga Puja celebrations conclude in Bangladesh
The Sharadiya Durga Puja festival concluded on October 21 with the immersion of idols on Bijaya Dashami. Across Bangladesh, the festivities were marked by traditional drumming, lighting, and cultural programs, reflecting the country's pluralistic society and communal harmony. Observers noted a lack of major unpleasant incidents during this year's celebrations, which contributed to a sense of relief and security for the Hindu community.
In a unique occurrence in Jashore, the Kaikhali Sarbojanin Durga Temple postponed its scheduled idol immersion following an incident where a local woman, Sabita Rani Ghosh, reportedly fell unconscious and exhibited unusual behavior. Claiming to be possessed by the deity, she asserted that the rituals had been performed incorrectly due to impurities, warning of potential disasters if the error was not rectified. Following the villagers' decision to honor this divine warning, a second round of puja ceremonies was conducted over four days, concluding with the final immersion on October 24.
