Dursun Özbek Elected President of Galatasaray Sports Club

Dursun Özbek was elected for a second term as the 39th president of Galatasaray Sports Club at an extraordinary general assembly, defeating rival Mustafa Cengiz. Born on 25 March 1949 in Şebinkarahisar, Giresun, Özbek graduated from Galatasaray High School and Istanbul Technical University’s Mechanical Engineering faculty. He began his career in the automotive sector in 1972, later expanding into tourism with hotel chains such as Nippon and Point. Özbek previously served on the club’s board under former president Ünal Aysal and was vice‑president after Duygun Yarsuvat’s election in 2014.

In his inaugural remarks as president, Özbek paid tribute to club founder Ali Sami Yen, celebrated the recent volleyball team championship, and announced strengthened cooperation with Galatasaray’s educational institutions, including the high school, university and the Education Foundation, noting a new budget allocation to support these entities.
