Dussehra 2026: Rituals and auspicious timings for Vijayadashami

Dussehra, also known as Vijayadashami, will be observed on Tuesday, October 20, 2026. The festival commemorates Lord Rama's victory over Ravana and Goddess Durga's defeat of Mahishasura.

A significant auspicious period, or Vijay Muhurat, is scheduled for 45 minutes, from 1:59 PM to 2:45 PM. During this time, traditions include Shastra Puja, the ritual worship of weapons, which historically served as a way for rulers to seek divine protection and victory in battle.

Religious practices also suggest the worship of Goddess Aparajita to overcome enemies and achieve success in difficult tasks. It is believed that Lord Rama invoked Shakti through Aparajita worship before his victory in Lanka. Devotees may recite the Aparajita Stotram and the mantra ‘Om Aparajitayai Namah’ to seek strength and remove obstacles.
