Dustin Poirier apologizes after Atlanta airport intoxication arrest

Former UFC lightweight champion Dustin Poirier was arrested on June 21 at Hartsfield‑Jackson Atlanta International Airport for public intoxication after a dispute with gate staff and a police officer. Body‑cam footage showed him shouting, threatening to fight the officer and eventually being handcuffed without further violence.

In a 90‑minute interview with the YouTube channel "Diary of a CEO," Poirier apologized to the desk agents and police, thanked the officer for his professionalism, and said he is working with an Atlanta lawyer to send a personal letter of gratitude. He linked the incident to long‑standing battles with depression, alcoholism, and a troubled relationship with his father, who is homeless after repeated alcohol‑related arrests.

The arrest has led to the loss of at least one major sponsor, and Poirier is assessing whether other endorsement deals will survive. He retired from MMA in July 2025 after a loss to Max Holloway and now works as a UFC analyst. Poirier has been released on bond and will appear in court on the misdemeanor charge of public intoxication.
