Dutch athletes Demi Vollering and Femke Broeders-Bol achieve success

Dutch athletes have achieved notable success following periods of significant personal and professional transition.

Cyclist Demi Vollering revealed that she considered retiring from the sport for a year in 2025. After a demanding season where she won the Tour of Basque Country, Vuelta a España, and Strade Bianche, she struggled to maintain her form during the Tour de France Femmes and the World Championships in Rwanda. Vollering stated she had pushed her body and mental limits too far, leading her to take a break in the mountains to recover and find her passion for cycling again.

In athletics, Femke Broeders-Bol secured a bronze medal in the 800 meters during her European Championship debut in Birmingham. Transitioning from a 400-meter hurdler, Broeders-Bol matched the 34-year-old Dutch record of 1:55.54 set by Ellen van Langen. Despite entering the season as an underdog focused on a transition year, her performance established her as a top contender in the discipline.
