Dutch automotive consumers prioritize price and service amid rising legal disputes
Research from Multiscope indicates that price remains the primary driver for car insurance selection, cited by 31% of motorists. However, consumers are increasingly prioritizing convenience and service. Younger drivers, aged 18 to 35, place a higher value on service (30%) and convenience (25%) compared to older demographics, and they utilize comparison websites more frequently.
Simultaneously, Achmea reports a significant rise in legal disputes involving cars and motorcycles. Legal aid reports saw 5,451 claims last year, a 78% increase compared to 2021. Factors contributing to this trend include the increasing technical complexity of vehicles, particularly regarding software and electronic defects, and extended legal protections for consumers regarding manufacturing defects.
Industry organization Bovag notes that the rise of AI tools, such as ChatGPT, may also be empowering consumers to draft legal documents more easily, potentially increasing the frequency of formal complaints.
