Dutch book markets draw crowds in Rekken and Deventer

On Saturday, 1 August 2026, the traditional Boekenmarkt in Rekken was held from 09:00 to 13:00 at the Antonius venue on Lindevoort. Thousands of visitors browsed thousands of second‑hand titles, with a special focus on children’s books, comics and the Ollie B. Bommel series. A puzzle‑exchange fair ran alongside, and the entire proceeds from the market and catering were donated to the Antonius charity.

At the Deventer Boekenmarkt, long‑time vendor René van Rossenberg showcased an eight‑metre‑long display of J.R.R. Tolkien books, posters, figurines and memorabilia. Van Rossenberg, who has collected Tolkien items since 1973 and runs a dedicated Tolkien shop in Leiden, attracts both domestic and international visitors each year. His stall remains a highlight of the market, drawing enthusiasts of both film adaptations and printed works.
