Dutch buyers dominate Alicante real estate market

Dutch citizens have become the leading foreign buyers of real estate in the province of Alicante, Spain, surpassing British buyers. This trend has intensified in 2026, with Dutch nationals purchasing more properties despite a general contraction in the overall foreign real estate market.

Data from the Valencia Notarial College indicates that while total foreign property transactions in the province fell by 11.7% in the first quarter compared to the previous year, Dutch purchases actually increased by 7%, totaling 937 homes. This surge is attributed to high taxes and restrictions on second homes or investment properties in Dutch municipalities like Amsterdam and Utrecht.

Dutch buyers are also paying significantly higher prices than the regional average. This influx of high-capital investors is cited as a contributing factor to the rising property prices across many Spanish coastal destinations.
