Dutch children mayors advocate for youth improvements
Youth representatives in several Dutch municipalities are working to address issues affecting children and adolescents. In Amstelveen and Aalsmeer, children mayors Emy and Julyanah are focusing on combating bullying and raising awareness regarding online risks. Julyanah plans to organize a compliment competition for students in grades 7 and 8 to promote positive social interactions, with winning entries to be displayed at the town hall.
In Waddinxveen, the children's mayor, Nick, and a committee of 13 children are working to improve local amenities. Their initiatives include advocating for healthier food options and more accessible playgrounds, specifically ensuring that children with disabilities can use local play areas. The committee's work aims to make the village a better environment for the younger generation.
