Dutch church exhibitions feature baptism dresses, birth tiles and community art

The historic Noorderkerk in the Netherlands hosted the exhibition “Draad van het leven” in partnership with Museum Spakenburg. The display presents baptism dresses – including a black dress worn during a family mourning – and traditional birth tiles that record names, dates and birth weights, illustrating personal and generational stories of faith and life.

Meanwhile, the Tuindorpkerk presented the exhibition “Alledaagse hemel”, created by local parish members. The show explores everyday beauty through photographs, collages and handcrafted crosses that mark baptisms and commemorate deceased community members, reflecting the church’s commitment to sustainability and social justice.

Both exhibitions aim to make Christian heritage accessible to visitors, inviting reflection on personal narratives and the broader role of the church in contemporary Dutch society.
