Dutch communities launch youth prevention programs for parents

Various community initiatives in the Netherlands are launching programs to help parents navigate the challenges facing youth aged 10 to 18.

In Leveroy, ZijActief Leveroy is organizing an interactive evening focused on alcohol, vaping, social media, and peer pressure. Supported by the Municipality of Nederweert, the event features sketches by Theatergroep Helder and prevention tips from professionals at Preventie Vincent van Gogh and Centrum Jeugd en Gezin to help parents understand their children's boundaries and social pressures.

In Sliedrecht, the municipality, SOJS, and local police have introduced the ‘Weet wat er speelt’ series. The initial meeting focuses on the recruitment of young people by criminals. Specialist Janco de Pijper from the police will discuss how criminals approach youth, how to recognize warning signs, and how parents can address topics such as online violence, cyberbullying, and the lure of quick money.
