Dutch courts hand down verdicts in sexual crime cases

A 36‑year‑old police officer from Roermond was acquitted by the Roermond court of rape after the judge found the victim’s statements inconsistent and lacking corroborating evidence. The court noted that while sexual activity occurred, the circumstances could not be proven to constitute rape. The prosecutor has two weeks to appeal the decision.

In a separate case, a 43‑year‑old man in Tolbert was sentenced to three years in prison for sexually abusing his two step‑daughters between July 2024 and January 2026. The court also acquitted the girls’ mother of charges that she had ignored the abuse. The sentencing includes additional supervision conditions for the offender.
