Dutch cycling teams compete in Vuelta al Ecuador

Dutch cycling teams Wielerploeg Groot Amsterdam (WPGA) and Universe Cycling Team participated in the 42nd edition of the Vuelta Ciclística al Ecuador. This marks the first time in 18 years that two European teams have competed in the event, following an invitation from the Ecuadorian Cycling Federation via the UCI.

The competition spanned 941 kilometers across six provinces. The Dutch riders highlighted the significant challenge of high altitude, with stages reaching elevations of 3,609 meters at the Urbina train station and 3,088 meters in El Cajas.

During the seven-day race, WPGA rider Tom Jonkmans secured third place in the intermediate sprints classification.
