Dutch Defence helicopters conduct exercises and fire detection

The Dutch Ministry of Defence is conducting military helicopter exercises in Veldhoven on August 18. The training involves two Chinook transport helicopters and one NH90 maritime combat helicopter working with Operational Healthcare (OGZ) to practice transporting wounded patients. The exercise includes several ‘unprepared landings’ in non-military locations. Authorities have advised livestock owners to take precautions, such as keeping sensitive animals in sheltered areas, to mitigate noise disturbance.

In a separate incident in Waalwijk, a Defence helicopter spotted smoke rising from a forested area near Mannenbeemdweg on August 11. The pilot alerted emergency services, allowing the fire department to respond quickly to the emerging forest fire. Due to ongoing drought conditions, the rapid intervention prevented the fire from spreading significantly, though the cause of the blaze remains unknown.
