Enexis power outage leaves 18,000 households without electricity in Tilburg region

At about 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, Enexis activated a 'code red' in its Weert control room and abruptly cut power to roughly 18,000 homes in the Tilburg area. The shutdown was deemed an emergency measure to prevent overload of the electricity network. Seventeen minutes later most households were re‑connected, although traffic lights remained out and a lift was temporarily trapped in a flat.

Throughout July 5‑6, Gelderland’s emergency services responded to a spate of incidents. Multiple vehicle collisions occurred on the A12 near Babberich, on the N233 viaduct in Ochten, and in towns such as Ede, Elst and Scherpenzeel, resulting in several injuries and heavy vehicle damage. Fires were reported at a residential property in Lochem, a garden shed in Hoogezand, a school roof in Arnhem and a container‑filled shed in Zwolle. Two gas cylinders ignited on a public road in Azewijn, and a house fire on Landsteinerweg caused minor burns. Cyclists and a scooter rider were also injured in collisions with cars in Apeldoorn, Nijmegen and Enschede. Most victims received medical care, and no fatalities were recorded.
