Dutch farmers block A1 bridge and drive tractor column through Apeldoorn

On 5 August, roughly 150 farm tractors formed a visibility action that blocked a bridge over the A1 motorway near Deurningen in the Netherlands. The bridge was stopped while cyclists and emergency vehicles could still pass, and the highway itself remained open. Police supervised the protest but did not intervene. The demonstration was aimed at the Dutch cabinet's nitrogen‑reduction package announced on 26 June, which includes stricter limits for livestock density and protection measures for Natura 2000 nature areas.

The following evening, about 100 tractors travelled in a column through the city of Apeldoorn, entering from the A1 via Kayersdijk and pausing traffic at several intersections. Police escorted the convoy and reported no major incidents or arrests. The Apeldoorn ride is seen as a continuation of the broader series of farmer protests across the country targeting the same nitrogen policy.

Both actions reflect ongoing rural opposition to the government's plan to cut nitrogen emissions and its impact on agricultural land use.
