Dutch Festival Ticket Sales Slump Hits Major Events

Large Dutch music festivals are experiencing weaker ticket sales this summer as rising prices deter buyers. Organisers of Lowlands, Zwarte Cross and Down The Rabbit Hole report that tickets are no longer selling out automatically. Lowlands tickets have risen from €175 in 2016 to €365 this year, and the secondary market has shifted, with both higher and lower‑priced resale options now available.

Researcher Martijn Mulder of Erasmus University attributes the slowdown to ticket costs above €300 acting as a barrier, and to consumers waiting for resale opportunities. Down The Rabbit Hole recorded about 42,000 visitors, down from the 50,000 target, prompting the festival to limit site capacity. Festival directors note that post‑COVID growth peaks are leveling off and competition from major summer concerts further strains demand.
