Series of vehicle fires disrupt Dutch and Belgian roads

A green Renault Kangoo crashed through a roundabout in Ieper, Belgium, pulling a traffic sign that sparked sparks and later caused the vehicle to ignite completely, though no injuries were reported. In the Netherlands, several separate incidents saw cars burn out: two vehicles were completely destroyed at the Oortjesburg in Nieuwegein, a car burned on the A4 near Leiderdorp causing major traffic jams and smoke, and another vehicle ignited on a roundabout in Tiel. All incidents prompted fire‑brigade responses, investigations by police, and temporary road closures that led to congestion. The causes of the fires remain under investigation, with authorities seeking eyewitness accounts and CCTV footage.
