Dutch football updates: Purmersteijn draws late and AZ Alkmaar drops first points

In the Dutch Derde Divisie, Purmersteijn secured a dramatic 1-1 draw against Excelsior’31. Despite appearing to be on the verge of a loss in the 98th minute due to an unfortunate own goal by Denzel Inyamah, Lennard Tol managed to equalize in extremis. Purmersteijn coach Berry Smit praised the team's character, noting they were the better side in the opening phase before Excelsior’31 applied significant pressure.

In the Eredivisie, AZ Alkmaar recorded their first points loss of the season following a 1-1 draw against Willem II. AZ currently sits in second place with sixteen points from six matches. Trainer Leeroy Echteld remained composed following the result, stating, “Nobody has died,” and emphasized the need for the team to learn from the match and manage rising expectations. AZ is scheduled to face Sunderland in the Europa League and Telstar in their next domestic fixture.
