Dutch frigate Zr. Ms. De Ruyter readies crew for possible Hormuz mission

A team of roughly ten to fifteen personnel is set to board the Dutch command frigate Zr. Ms. De Ruyter to prepare for a potential operation in the Strait of Hormuz. The group will include a few Dutch sailors but is mainly composed of French and British crew members.

The deployment follows a request from the United Kingdom and France, which are leading an international coalition aimed at securing the busy waterway. The frigate is already positioned in the region. Dutch defence minister Dilan Yesilgöz said the situation remains unstable, but stressed that the presence of the preparatory team does not commit the Netherlands to the mission. She added that a durable agreement on reopening the strait must be reached before any Dutch participation is decided. The United States Treasury Secretary indicated that such an agreement is expected shortly.
