Dutch heritage preserved through local history and museum exhibits

Historical accounts and museum exhibits are preserving the heritage of Dutch local life. In Vreeswijk, Arie Hoogendoorn shares memories of ‘Het Centrum’, a family cigar and toy shop located on the historic Dorpsstraat. The shop served as a central hub for the community in a village that developed around the Oude Sluis and Vaartse Rijn waterways.

Meanwhile, the Nederlands Openluchtmuseum in Arnhem is preserving a 17th-century farmhouse from Hoogmade. The museum has reconstructed the residence to reflect its state from 2001, allowing former residents to experience a home that remains exactly as they left it, complete with personal belongings and furniture.
