Dutch hotelier reports guests taking breakfast buffet food

Hotel operator Jan de Vrij, who has run a hotel in the Netherlands for 26 years, reports an increasing trend of guests taking food from the breakfast buffet to use as provisions for later excursions. De Vrij noted to the newspaper "De Telegraaf" that guests often take items such as rolls or fruit to avoid the cost of purchasing lunch packs.

According to legal counsel Jürgen Benad of the German Hotel and Restaurant Association (Dehoga), taking food and drinks from a breakfast buffet is not permitted, as these offerings are intended for immediate consumption at the hotel. Violating these rules may result in additional charges, depending on individual hotel policies.
