Dutch libraries expand community services and literacy programs
Various Dutch libraries are expanding their community roles through new facilities and specialized programs.
In Heusden, Kindcentrum De Vlechter officially opened a new school library in collaboration with Bibliotheek Heusden. The initiative aims to bolster reading culture, with a goal of providing at least five books per student. The project included updating the collection with 250 new books and hosting activities related to the national Children's Book Week.
In Voorschoten, the local library celebrated the tenth anniversary of its GalerieBieb and Taalhuis programs. The GalerieBieb provides exhibition space for local artists, while the Taalhuis assists residents with learning the Dutch language. Additionally, the library has launched the Ontwikkelplein, a center where citizens can receive guidance on digital literacy, financial matters, and employment skills.
