Dutch libraries promote literacy during Week of Reading and Writing

During the national Week of Reading and Writing, held from September 8 to 15, various Dutch institutions are increasing efforts to support individuals struggling with literacy and digital skills. In the Netherlands, approximately three million people—about one in five adults—face difficulties with reading, writing, arithmetic, or using digital devices.

In the Noord-Veluwe region, the Taalpunt at Bibliotheek Noord-Veluwe, supported by the Municipality of Hattem, provides assistance to those looking to improve their basic skills. Similarly, the Taalhuis Oldambt is celebrating its 10th anniversary during this period. The Taalhuis offers tailored help for tasks such as preparing for driver's license theory exams or obtaining VCA certificates. To raise awareness, Taalhuis Oldambt is organizing community outreach activities, including mobile information sessions and reading events in Winschoten and Finsterwolde.
