D66 faces coalition setbacks in The Hague and Oostzaan municipalities

In The Hague, D66 leader Yousef Assad said coalition negotiations with Hart voor Den Haag collapsed over disagreements on asylum policy. Assad accused the party of Richard de Mos of adopting an extreme‑right stance and refusing to accept asylum seekers, prompting D66 to withdraw from the talks.

In Oostzaan, a new coalition of CDA, GroenLinks, D66 and PvdA presented its agreement on 10 June, leaving the VVD outside the municipal college. The parties cited divergent views on a possible merger with Purmerend and other policy priorities. Public input from residents was incorporated, and the council will vote on the accord before appointing the new aldermen.
