Dutch local council members receive resilience training amid rising threats

Newly appointed local council members in several Dutch regions are receiving resilience training to combat increasing polarization and threats from citizens. In Houten, council member Malika Saber noted that while training was provided, social media threats often go unaddressed, raising questions about where the line for intervention should be drawn.

In IJsselstein, council members reported facing threats following riots related to an asylum seeker emergency shelter. In response, the council decided to present a united front and issue joint statements to support one another.

Additionally, local discussions in Lopik touched upon the enforcement of fireworks bans, with officials noting the difficulty of regulation due to cross-border availability, though expressing hope that bans might eventually reduce usage.
