Dutch mayors host breakfasts to promote healthy nutrition

Mayors across the Netherlands are participating in the ‘Burgemeestersontbijt’ (Mayor's Breakfast) to promote healthy eating habits among primary school students. This initiative is part of the ‘Week van Ons Eten’ (Our Food Week), running from October 6 to October 9, with additional focus during the National School Breakfast in November.

In one event, students from ‘t Wold primary school met with Mayor Bram Harmsma and local farmer Ester Beinum to discuss the origins of food and the importance of nutrition. In Aalsmeer, students from IKC Triade joined Mayor Gido Oude Kotte and child mayor Julyanah Sitaram for a breakfast featuring whole grain bread and yogurt. During these sessions, students engage with local officials to learn about the role of a mayor and the importance of starting the day with a nutritious meal.
