Dutch mayors host national school breakfast events

As part of the National School Breakfast initiative during the ‘Week of Our Food’, mayors across the Netherlands are hosting breakfast sessions with primary school students to promote healthy eating habits.

In one instance, Mayor Judith Compagner met with students from Christelijk Kindencentrum De Driester to discuss the importance of a nutritious start to the day, emphasizing how a healthy breakfast aids concentration and learning. Similarly, Mayor Pieter Verhoeve and Alderman Sjane-Marie Koppers hosted students from De Kas school to discuss food origins and nutrition.

The breakfasts feature foods aligned with the ‘Schijf van Vijf’ nutritional guidelines, including whole grain products, fruits, vegetables, and dairy. The initiative aims to bring together municipalities, schools, and local entrepreneurs to highlight the benefits of breakfast for children.
