Dutch municipalities advance housing projects in Herxen and Lochem

The municipality of Olst‑Wijhe, together with the province of Overijssel, has started a vision process for housing in the village of Herxen. Officials say the area can accommodate an average of two to four new homes per year. The plan includes redeveloping the former Grolleman transport site for fifteen homes and a collective private initiative for three additional homes, while protecting surrounding rural land.

In the adjacent municipality of Lochem, the council signed intent agreements with three landowners for the development of the Lochem‑Oost+ area. The project aims to provide about 600 homes by 2040, covering a range of price categories and household types. The new district is part of the town’s goal to reach 40,000 residents and will be planned with input from residents and a detailed spatial vision.
