Dutch municipalities collaborate on regional housing and care vision

Municipalities in the Kop van Noord-Holland region, including Den Helder, Hollands Kroon, Schagen, and Texel, have launched a regional housing and care vision aimed at addressing demographic shifts through 2040. The initiative focuses on ensuring residents can live independently in familiar environments for as long as possible.

The vision addresses four primary challenges: promoting independent living, fostering livable neighborhoods, providing 2,585 additional homes specifically for seniors by 2040, and managing the increasing demand for urgent housing. The plan also emphasizes integrating housing with local welfare and healthcare services to support both residents and caregivers.

In a related effort to improve urban living standards, Architectuurcentrum Bouwhuis and Architectuurcentrum Rondeel are organizing a meeting in Deventer to discuss social quality in high-rise developments. This initiative, termed ‘Friendly Urbanization’, seeks to shift the focus from mere housing quantity to the spatial and social quality of living environments in cities like Apeldoorn and Deventer.
