Dutch municipalities Dalfsen and Hulst seek new child mayors

The Dutch municipalities of Dalfsen and Hulst are both seeking new child mayors for the 2026-2027 school year. These roles allow children to act as representatives for their peers, participating in community events such as Sinterklaas parades, playground openings, and official commemorations.

In Dalfsen, eligible candidates are children in grades 7 or 8 who reside in the municipality. Applicants are required to submit a video of up to 1.5 minutes explaining their interest in the position. The role involves collaborating with the mayor and expressing the views of local children on important community topics.

In Hulst, Mayor Ilona Jense-van Haarst has invited students in grade 7 to apply. Candidates must submit a one-minute video by October 1, 2026. A selection committee, including the mayor and members of the municipal council, will choose the representative on October 7, 2026, following a selection day.
