Dutch municipalities Gulpen‑Wittem and Leiden approve new coalition agreements
In Gulpen‑Wittem, the local parties PRO Gulpen‑Wittem, Gulpen Wittem Lokaal and DOE ’22 signed a coalition accord called “Dichtbij Duurzaam Daadkrachtig” on 23 June. The agreement introduced four prospective councillors – Frans Derksen, Alain Hamaekers, Marc Hermans and Marion van der Kleijn – who will be installed after a council meeting on 9 July.
In Leiden, negotiations between the parties PRO, CDA and D66 collapsed, prompting opposition groups such as Forum for Democracy, Students for Leiden, Partij Sleutelstad and the VVD to express willingness to join a new city executive. Officials warned that the stalemate leaves the city without a governing coalition three months after elections, urging swift talks to form a stable administration before the summer recess.
