Dutch municipalities host community fitness initiatives
During the National Sport Week in September, various Dutch municipalities implemented initiatives to promote physical activity and community engagement.
In Reeuwijk-Brug, the municipality of Bodegraven-Reeuwijk and Sport en Welzijn officially opened the new Beweegpark on Kennedysingel. The park was developed in collaboration with local residents to serve as both a fitness area and a social meeting point. To mark the opening, local organizers hosted low-threshold training sessions and community activities, including a smoothie bike.
In the municipality of Epe, the ‘Fitclass Challenge’ was organized for approximately 450 students from local primary and secondary schools. The event, part of the ‘Heel Epe Beweegt’ initiative, featured various physical activities such as rowing, running, and weight-bearing exercises. The program aimed to encourage healthy lifestyles for youth as part of the JOGG (Healthy Youth, Healthy Future) municipal strategy.
